1- Salt Dough Recipe

  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup lukewarm water

Instructions:

1. Mix flour and salt and add water until the dough begins to form.

2. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth.

3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to approximately 1/4″ thickness, then use cookie cutters to cut out the shapes. Use a toothpick to make a hole for hanging the ornaments, or wait until they are dry and glue the string to the back of the ornament.

4. Decorate!

5. Let air dry, or bake at 175° for 1 – 1/2 hours

2- Corn Starch Recipe

  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 3/4 cup water

1. Combine 1/2 cup corn starch, 1 cup baking soda, and 3/4 cup water together in a medium size sauce pan on the stove top. On medium heat, stir until the mixture comes together in a sort of mashed potato consistency.

2. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, cover it with a damp cloth and let it sit until cool.

3. Once cool enough to handle, knead the clay on a lightly dusted (cornstarch) surface until smooth. Add in more cornstarch if the mixture feels too sticky.

4. Roll out dough on parchment paper or a silicon mat until it’s approximately 1/4″ thick.

5. Arrange your cookie cutters and extract your shapes. You may need a spatula to get the designs off without damaging them.

6. Use a toothpick to make a hole for hanging the ornaments, or wait until they are dry and glue the string to the back of the ornament.

7. Decorate!

8. Bake ornaments at 175° for 1 hour, rotating the pan after 30 minutes.
