I have loved doilies since I was a child, my mom and grandmothers homes were adorned with them and I have saved an assortment of them through the years to use in craft projects. In a recent post I shared how to make Doily Mason Jar Luminaries and even a Doily Lantern. Today we are going to learn how to make Dip Dyed Doily Bowls. If you’ve never seen a dip dyed doily bowl, you are in for a treat!
This is an easy craft project with a few extra steps from the usual doily bowl tutorials you will find on the net. You will be dying the edged of your doily before creating the bowl for a dramatic and beautiful effect not normally seen on regular doily projects. On page two you will find the instructions and also watch a quick little video of the process being done live.
What you will need:
- doily
- 3 or more bowls – you will need 1 bowl for the glue and 1 bowl for each color dye you’ll want and 1 bowl to form your doily bowl.
- food coloring
- salt
- spoon
- glue (Regular mod podge is not recommended for this project. Use this glue and water recipe > Homemade Mod Podge
- saran wrap
- wax paper – or other surface protectant
