Welcome to PAGE TWO of the DIY Penny Technique Tutorial.
It’s amazing what a dramatic effect using copper pennies in your craft projects can have and this is one of my favorites! Find out how to use this technique to upcycle an old vase with a new look that will add a rich elegant look to your home decor.
Instructions:
- Plug in your hot glue gun and let it heat up
- Find an old vase that you want to upcycle, make sure it is clean and free of dust and debris
- Using your black chalkboard paint, paint the entire vase top to bottom and allow it to dry completely.
- Get your pennies and hot glue gun ready and starting at the top of your vase, begin the process of gluing pennies on starting at the top of the vase working down to the bottom. I like to alternate dark and light pennies for a uniform color result.
Once dry, your project is complete and you can now fill it with flowers or whatever you choose!

Is there a reason why you say to use chalk board paint? Wouldn’t other kinds of paint work just as well???
Yes I would think any black matte paint would work as long as it’s not shiny to show through 🙂
