I Can’t Believe This Works.. But It DOES!

In my last craft tutorial for DIY Painted PVC Pipe Vases, you learned how to paint pvc pipes for a beautiful centerpiece. Today we will be using pvc again only this time we will be showcasing your favorite memories in DIY PVC Photo Vases! This is an awesome craft project from the ‘Mod Podger Rocks Blog’ where you will be utilizing decoupage with your favorite photos and pvc pipe that you will love to show off. They also make beautiful gifts that your friends and family will cherish.

What you will need:

  • PVC pipes of various widths
  • PVC caps to fit the pipes
  • PVC Pipe cement
  • Outdoor Mod Podge
  • Wooden Base (mine is from Michaels)
  • Glue (like E-6000)
  • Laser copies of old photos
  • Foam Brush (not pictured)
  • Forstner Bit and drill (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the PVC pipes into various lengths.
  2. Use the PVC cement to glue the caps to the pipes and set them aside to dry.
  3. Gather and scan some photos. Resize each photo to fit a specific pipe – tall and wide enough to wrap around its designated pipe.
  4. Print the photos on plain paper using a laser printer. Laser is key – when soaking the images in water, inkjet ink will run.
  5. Drop the image in some water and while it soaks, coated the outside of the PVC pipe with Outdoor Mod Podge. Then remove the image from the water and gently run your fingers down it to remove excess water and then apply it to the pipe using fingers to smooth out. Decoupaged to seal where the ends of the paper overlap. Do that for each pipe and set them aside to dry.
  6. At this point, you can either choose to glue your pipes to the wooden base or drill holes in the base with the drill bits to set the pipes down into.
  7. Give the photo-tubes a sealing coat of Outdoor Mod Podge and when that is dry, trim away any excess paper from the tops and bottoms.
  8. Add glue to the base of your tubes and either insert them in your drilled holes or glue them directly to the base. Set aside and let dry for 24 hours.
