Working with craft sand is a lot of fun, and with a little practice you can create Sand Art Candle Masterpieces! Now that you have your materials ready from the list on page one, follow the tutorial below and you will be on your way to creating your own DIY sand Art Gel Candles with ease! On page three, you will find a video tutorial if you’d like to watch these being made.

Instructions:

  1. Cut your gel wax into small cubes and put them in your candle pot and heat them on medium heat using the double boiler method
  2. Get your glass container ready and grab a wick. You can either use hot wax or hot glue from a hot glue gun to affix the metal base of the wick to the bottom center of your glass container.
  3. Now get your spoon out and carefully begin adding layers of colored sand to your glass container. Tilt the glass slightly as you add the 2nd color as shown below.

  4. Continue adding layers of different color sand until you get to just below the rim of the glass container.diy sand art gel candles
  5. Now it’s time to add your melted gel wax. Hold the wick upright and begin to slowly pour the hot wax into your glass container filling it to the rim without overflowing it.diy sand art gel candles
  6. Use your skewer stick to gently wrap the excess wick around which will hold it upright while the wax sets. Lay the skewer stick across the glass container horizontally.diy sand art gel candles

Once the gel wax has completely set and no longer liquid, cut the wick. Now you are ready for your embellishments if you choose to add them. You will need your glue gun for this step. Begin by gluing the end of your bead strand in place at the top of your glass container (as shown below) and continue gluing the strand on all the way around. Cut off any excess.
