How to Build a DIY Cedar Ice Cooler For Your Patio


Every outdoor patio needs an outdoor ice cooler for a convenient way to keep beverages cold and keep the kids outside while they play and out of your refrigerator . Outdoor Ice Chests are also great for parties and entertaining. In this video, you will learn how to make a DIY Cedar Ice Cooler that is both attractive and useful.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED:

– 1×4 cedar. Get eleven 10-footers.
– Igloo Ice Blue MaxCold 50 cooler. Go to igloo-store.com.
– 1 1/2-, 1 1/4-, and 2-inch deck screws
– 5/8-inch brass or stainless-steel screws for the lid slats
– 1/2-inch brass spigot
– 1/2-by-3-inch brass nipple
– 1/2-inch brass double female connector
– 29-inch brass or stainless-steel continuous hinge
– Brass or stainless-steel gate handle
– 24-inch brass or stainless-steel sash chain
– Wall-mount bottle opener
– Teflon tape
– Double-sided foam tape- Tape measure

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED:

– Miter saw
– Long and short bar clamps
– Drill/driver
– 1/8-inch combination countersink bit
– Straightedge
– Circular saw
– Router with a 3/4-inch straight bit
– Screwdriver
– 1/8-inch twist bit
– 1-inch Forstner (or spade) bit
– two adjustable wrenches

CUT LIST YOU WILL NEED:

Lid:

1×4 frame front and back: two @ 29 1/2 inches
1×4 frame sides: two @ 17 3/4 inches
1×4 stiles: two @ 29 1/2
1×4 rails: two @ 12 1/4 inches
1×4 slats: four @ 24 inches (two slats ripped to 2 inches)

Box:

1×4 frame front and back: two @ 29 1/2 inches
1×4 frame sides: two @ 17 3/4 inches
1×4 bottom: four @ 28 inches
1×4 slats: twenty-two @ 13 1/8
1×4 corner boards: eight @ 10 3/8 inches
1×4 long cap piece: two @ 29 1/2 inches (ripped to 1 1/2 inches)
1×4 short cap piece: two @ 16 1/4 inches (ripped to 1 1/2 inches)
1×4 batten: one @ 10 3/8 inches

Base:

1×4 feet and brackets: eight @ 19 1/4 inches
1×4 legs: four @ 7 inches
1×4 foot pads: four @ 5 inches
