Gel Candles are beautiful and in my humble opinion are far more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than regular candles. There are of course Gel Candle Kits you can buy to make these, but that takes all the fun out of doing it the DIY way 🙂 If you are a beginner crafter, the ready made kits may be a good place to start. This tutorial is really simple though, even for a beginner.
Be sure when you are making DIY Gel Candles that you use zinc wicks instead of cotton because I have found that the cotton wicks absorb too much gel and don’t work nearly as well.
What you will need:
- gel wax
- zinc wicks
- essential oil for fragrance (you can also use natural scents like real vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, apples or oranges)

- liquid color dye
- embellishments (optional) such as gems, crystals, pebbles, beads etc. You can even use Gummy Bears!

- another pot to use as double boiler to melt the wax.
- skewer stick or other slim stick for holding the wick upright.
- glass container
