Welcome to PAGE TWO of the DIY Live Moss Graffiti Garden Tutorial. below you will find instructions as well as a video from Sick Science showing the process of creating moss graffiti.
Directions:
Gather the items you will need and let’s get started!
- Measure 1/4 cup of Buttermilk and 1-1/2 cups of water and put them in the blender
[I’ve also seen suggestions for using 2 cups of plain yogurt in place of buttermilk or 2 cups of spoilt milk or milk with a splash of vinegar. Moss are a Fungi that like acidic media because they can ferment the sugars in the milk and thrive due to favorable pH levels] - Add 2 clumps of moss to the blender (even though the moss is blended it is still alive!)
- Next, extract the gel from a baby diaper (if you’re not sure how to do that, there’s a video showing how at the end of this tutorial on Page 3)
- Add 2 tbs of diaper water gel to the blender
- Put the lid on the blender and blend until smooth. it should have the consistency of paint.
- Transfer the mixture to a bucket to use for painting.
- Apply the moss mixture to a textured surface with your paint brush. Have your design plan handy or even sketched on the wall first to help guide your painting.
- Spritz your moss with water every day for the first several weeks until the moss begins to grow. In hotter/drier climates, you may need to mist more often so the moss does not dry out.
