I Can’t Believe This Worked! But It DID! The result is STUNNING!

Instructions:

1. To begin this project, turn your bowl upside down and cut off enough saran wrap to cover the entire bowl and tuck the excess inside the bowl.

2. Begin painting a generous amount of glue to your wrapped bowl. Give it a few moments to get tacky but not dry and begin adding your sea glass from the bottom rip up. As you apply a layer or 2, paint on more glue as you work your way up the bowl with sea glass as shown in the photos below (more glue is better in this project to make it strong)

3. Continue adding sea glass filling all the bare spots until the bowl is completely covered in glass.

4. Allow your bowl to dry for at least 3 days before attempting to to remove the sea glass bowl from the wrapped bowl underneath. This allows the glue ample time to cure and solidify. Doing this step too soon can ruin your bowl.

5. Once 3 days have passed, unwrap the saran wrap from the first bowl and CAREFULLY lift your sea glass bowl away from the first bowl leaving the saran wrap on your sea glass bowl. Now grab another bowl that this bowl will fit inside and layer it with paper towels to support your bowl. Place your sea glass bowl inside the bowl with paper towels and carefully peel off the saran wrap. Your bowl will still be tacky at this point if you used enough glue to begin with. Not using enough glue will make a flimsy bowl verses a stiff solid bowl.

6. Once the glue has completely dried and hardened, use a dremel with soft grit to sand down any buildup of glue around the edges.

You’re bowl is now complete and you can enjoy using it anyway you like. 🙂

I found this tutorial on Youtube but the video is rather cheesy so I opted to do my own tutorial based off the video which you can see HERE if you choose.

This bowl is not dishwasher safe as any hot water can soften the glue that holds it together. Try to find the best glue you can find to start with so your beautiful new bowl will last a long time. I do not suggest anything like elmer’s glue. Whatever glue you choose, it must dry clear.

  1. I was really wondering if i could buy sea glass through a web site or at a craft store i live in the Desert and i just love the look of sea glass. Thank you so very much.Gina Wolter

  2. Hi, Thanks for the great idea and instructions. I have been looking for new crafts for sea glass and this is perfect.
Have you worked with resin? I have not but want to try it for something else. Do you think it would help the sturdiness of the bowl if
you painted the inside of the completed bowl with resin?

    • I have not worked with resin yet either, but if it hardens then I would think it would reinforce the strength of the bowl. Mind you that is just an educated guess as I am not familiar with the product 🙂 Happy Crafting!

  3. Thanks for this tutorial. I also tried the youtube video but the person doing it was too irritating. I take it that eventually the glue sets solid creating a strong bowl? I asked in the craft store but they didn’t know.
