How To Make Beautiful Dip Dyed Doily Bowls [Video]

Welcome to PAGE TWO of the DIY Dip Dyed Doily Bowls Tutorial!

Now that you have all your materials ready from page one, you are about to learn the steps for making a very unique doily bowl. You can make them any size you want. I love the small trinket bowls made with smaller doilies.

Instructions:

  1. Add some water to one of your bowls and add a few generous drops of food coloring in your choice of color to the bowl. The more color you add, the richer the color will be.
  2. Add a pinch of salt to the colored water and stir with your spoon to mix.
  3. Fold your lace doily so that the outer edges are all gathered at the bottom
  4. Now dip the bottom edges into the dye you made in step 1 and 2.dip dyed doily bowl
  5. After dipping, lay it down flat on wax paper to protect your workspace surface
  6. get out another clean bowl and make your glue and water mixture (recipe here) you do not want to use regular mod podge for this project, it does not work as well.
  7. Get your shaping bowl ready. Use a bowl the size you want your doily bowl to be. Wrap the bowl in saran wrap and when your done, turn the bowl over (bottom up) and proceed to step 8.
  8. Submerse your lace doily into the glue and water mixture thoroughly saturating it.
  9. Now take your saturated doily and lay it across the bottom side of your saran wrapped bowl and be sure to flatten the edges all the way around. Let it sit overnight to harden and dry completely.
  10. Once dry simply lift your new doily bowl off the other bowl and it is ready to use 🙂

Below you can watch a quick tutorial of the steps above. In this video he is making a tiny trinket bowl with a small doily but you can make these any size you want.

I hope I’ve inspired you to create your own Dip Dyed Doily Bowls. These make beautiful holiday gifts for family and friends. I like these because they are different from the usual one color doily bowls others make. You can also stack them, one inside the other with a larger bowl on the bottom on one color and smaller bowls with different colors rims inside the first for a dramatic rainbow effect. You may choose to glue them together to make one solid rainbow dipped doily bowl. The possibilities are endless. Use your imagination and above all else… HAVE FUN!
