Welcome to PAGE TWO of the DIY Alcohol Ink Stained Glass Tutorial.
Instructions:
1. Clean the inside of your glass with regular rubbing alcohol
2. Apply a few drops of Alcohol Ink inside the glass where you want that color to go.
3. Hit the Alcohol Ink spots you just applied with a few bursts of compressed air to give it a splattered effect. Allow a few minutes for it to dry.
4. Repeat the processes above for each color you want to apply to your glass piece.
UPDATE: The tutorial is used for votive and decorative glasses, which stains the inside of the glasses.. so if you want to drink from them I suggest to only stain the outside of the glasses and only up to one inch below the rim so there is no contact with stain by the mouth. Also be sure not to get water based alcohol ink or the glass will not be able to be washed in water. A good sealer after staining is also advised.
Below you can watch a 5 minute video from Tim Holtz to see this Alcohol Ink Splatter technique being done.
That’s all there is too it. You can practice the alcohol ink splatter technique on glossy paper as Tim did in the video above until you feel comfortable enough to do it on glass. It really is very easy and the results are dramatic and stunning!

Hi.. I’m glad you enjoyed this project. I will be posting more alcohol ink projects soon!
can you drink from these glasses after they are painted?

I will add an update to this page stating such.. thank you for bringing this point to my attention! Happy New Year!!
How would you clean something like that?
hand wash them.. not sure alcohol ink is dishwasher safe 🙂
I meant, with soap and water or something like windex? Like the glass table top. Could i use windex on something like that?
I use soap and water, I’ve never tried windex, so if you want to try it, do a tiny test area first and if the ink doesn’t come off you’re good to do.
